Kristen Stewart known for her performance in the Twilight series removed her heels as she walked the red carpet in Cannes to protest the Heels Only rule for women.

She made a statement as she walked the red carpet for ‘BlacKkKlansman’ in black Christian Louboutins and a silver ensemble. She walked the carpet and then stopped to remove her shoes and walked the stairs without her heels.

While she was climbing the stairs the photographers kept taking pictures. She was sporting black nail-paint on her toe-nails.

This is not the first time that the red-carpet dress code has come under scrutiny for being controversial.

Back in 2015, a group of women was not allowed to walk in flats to attend the screening of ‘Carol’.

Cannes festival confirmed that it is compulsory for women to walk the red carpet in heel shoes.

Emily Blunt also protested this rule and spoke out against it saying that everyone should wear flats and shouldn’t wear heels.

82 women including Kristen Stewart, Cate Blanchett, Salma Hayek walked the red carpet to protest the number of female directors selected by Cannes i.e. 82 as compared with more than 1600 male directors since 1946.
